Places to provide news dressed in a nice theme

There happens so much in the world it is often very difficult to filter all the news. Therefore it is easier when certain people already make a pre-selection for us.

Together with this site “Some View on the World“, I try to form a complementary entity with my site “Worldviewer” that brings honest news reports and is not afraid to express a certain view on things happening today.

On “Some View on the World” and on “Worldviewer” there was no intention to bring soft news or market-centred journalism, though some personal ideas or diary writings could also find their place in the publications.

Looking at the views we can notice that soft news which centres more on the lives of individuals and has little, if any, perceived urgency, gets more views than the up-to-date information gathering. Hard news generally concerns issues, politics, economics, international relations, welfare, and scientific developments, whereas soft news focuses on human-interest stories and celebrities. Those last ones not exactly receiving many writings over here.

The majority of people today look at their apps for getting fast news. Television, radio or internet blur the sky with 24/24 news updates. Many these days, especially the youth, prefer reading the news online to listening, watching television or buying newspapers. It is a known fact that news websites and news aggregators have conquered those who want to know what is going on in this world. They reduced the patronage of the traditional media. Often people are not aware of how some aggregators are curated by people to whom certain types of information is of particular importance and could be part of a propaganda machine.

We too, for getting some news, pay our reliable sources, but present our selection for free to those readers who come along. At the same time, by making our selection, we also try to give our own impression where we try to frame the information received in the given circumstances and in the context of biblical fact. But strangely enough, offering a Reader’s Digest of some interesting news features, it looks like not so many people are interested in it. The analytics of this site, do show not a good amount of views for certain articles. For all the work that goes into publishing articles, it is even sometimes embarrassing how little attention goes into them. No wonder the founder of this news site wonders if it is all worth it.

None of the above-mentioned ‘viewers on the world’, bring an online version of a newspaper, either as a stand-alone publication or as the online version of a printed periodical. Though here you could find, up to a few days ago, a daily review of what the Daily Telegraph was offering in her printed newspaper. With “Frontpage” people could find the most important happenings of the day. But it seems not so many readers find their way to those announced articles, which could stand on their own, giving a fair view of the most significant events of the day.

On this site and on Worldviewer, it is the intention to bring some essential events in the front light. We believe it is indispensable to follow up on what is happening in this world, because we are convinced that everything that happens fits a certain plan. Coming closer to predicted times, we should analyse all events in the light of those predictions foretold in the Holy Scriptures.

As believers, we strongly believe that we need to help each other understand this world so that we can spiritually arm ourselves against what is going wrong and will go wrong even more. Coming closer to certain difficult times, people should come to understand why it is going such a way, or how it could be going to evolve.

As the world continues to spin at loose ends, believers are supposed to open people’s eyes and warn them of what is happening and coming. This is one of the reasons why people from certain faith groups take to the streets to preach.
As witnesses for God, we are supposed to make the Good News known and show people that even though there will be terrible times ahead, there are also very bright prospects.
As we look at events on this earth, we can additionally present the reason for our faith and hopefully make people think about the spiritual that underpins our lives.

To bring worldly and spiritual news, it is best to put it in a pleasant dress. This then involves a search for successful WordPress themes that also offer a certain security guarantee and don’t overwhelm people with unwanted adverts. The latter happened to me after I chose what I thought was a successful theme.

My first choice only gave the picture and title of the article, without further information, so that could not attire people to come to read the articles.

Looking for a theme that next to a photograph also showed the short content of the article, I found a very attractive theme of which I could adapt the colours to my taste. TheWordPress theme I had chosen seemed to bring some problems. The theme ‘Cerauno’ showed too many advertising messages and my links to other articles were getting into the spam box. It was even so bad that with the ‘Cerauno’ theme, I could find up to 36 boxes with all kinds of advertising messages under one article. This I found hugely annoying and also did not wish to do to my readers to face those annoying things. Some commercial messages were even against my faith and as such unacceptable.

The 3rd chosen WordPress Theme: “Gateway” in my first preferred colour setting.

Next I tried the theme ‘Publication’ in the hope not to have that problem. But also there I was not yet totally pleased (also still seeing too many adverts), so went looking further, to come to a nice theme, where I chose one of my favourite colours as a background, thereby not asking myself how placed links ended up there. Only later did I notice that the links were not at all visible on the dark background. So I decided to change the theme again and chose a lighter colour as a base.

Following the advice

to make your WordPress website truly unique and tailored to your specific needs, customization is essential.

I do hope I could customise my site so it will appeal to more visitors.

You are invited to have a look at my refurbished site and may give your opinion about the looks. Advice is always welcome and very much appreciated.
