Event
Jordanian King Abdullah II called for an immediate ceasefire in the war in Gaza and for creating a horizon for the establishment of a Palestinian state during a press conference on Tuesday, together with U.S. President Joe Biden. In some of his most inflammatory comments since the start of the war, King Abdullah stated:
āSeven decades of occupation, death, and destruction have proven beyond any doubt that there can be no peace without a political horizon.ā
Unlike the kingās previously strong support for a two-state solution and accompanying critiques of Israelās āoccupationā of the West Bank since 1967, āseven decades of occupationā seemingly calls into question the very existence of the State of Israel, which celebrated its 75th-anniversary last year. Regarding the Gaza war, Abdullah stated,
āAll attacks against innocent civilians, women and children, including those of October 7, cannot be accepted by any Muslim. As I have previously stressed, we must make sure the horrors of the past few months since October 7, are never repeated, nor accepted by any human being.ā
Comment
Jordan is intimately involved with Jerusalem and especially the Holy sites there. It is a Jordanian appointed organisation that is responsible for controlling and managing the current Islamic shrines on theĀ Temple Mount i.e. The Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque. Israel however controls access to the Temple Mount itself. We know that Jerusalem will become the centre of a final conflict. Therefore at some point Jordan must get involved (against Israel) as Jordan sees Jerusalem as a Muslim capital. The Bible says Edom and Moab (Jordan) will indeed form part of a confederacy against Israelā¦.
Bible quote
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.Ā For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:Ā The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, (Psalm 83:4-7)
