Failing Israeli government wanting to provide image of victory by annihilation of Palestinians in Gaza and ethnic cleansing

Israel’s atrocities in Gaza have exposed it as “a Zionist, colonial settlement project and …. “a country that is capable of committing war crimes to achieve their goals.”

Many Europeans seem to forget that not all Israelis agree with what their government is up to in Gaza.

The war on the Gaza Strip already taking four deadly months pushing Palestinians up to despeair. In the meantime peopple could wonder why Israel in the first placed did not try to avoid the October 7 Hamas attack, when they knew such an attack was going to happen? Now Israel is trying to compensate for its failures with tactics that are raising the risk of a “complete regional explosion”, them also bombing Lebanon and the West Bank.

Senior Palestinian politician Mustafa Barghouti sees in the assassination of Saleh Al-Arouri, the deputy Chief of Hamas and one of the founders of the Al-Qassam Brigades during the early 1990s, killed in an attack in Lebanon on Tuesday January 2, marking a serious escalation that many fear could trigger a wider regional conflict.

In Barghouti’s view, the strike on Al-Arouri reflects the reality that Israel’s campaign in Gaza

“failed drastically in achieving any of its main goals”.

“What they’ve done in assassinating Saleh Al-Arouri was a way of trying to compensate for this failure,”

Barghouti, General-Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, told Anadolu.

“Of all the Israeli goals, they couldn’t conduct fully the ethnic cleansing, they couldn’t destroy the Palestinian Resistance, and they couldn’t impose their Occupation.”

Netanyahu believes that, with this assassination

“he can provide to the Israeli public an image of victory, which is not true,”

Barghouti added.

“In reality, he is risking a total explosion of the region. But Netanyahu doesn’t care, not only about Palestinian lives, he doesn’t care even about Israeli lives. All he wants is the extension of this war for as long as possible to save himself from losing the position of the Prime Minister and going to jail eventually,”

he said.

Israeli lawyer lawyer and human rights activist, Michael Sfard, on behalf of a group of lawyers and Israeli public figures, sent a letter to Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, requesting that she take measures against public figures and officials, including lawyers, who called for the annihilation of Palestinians in Gaza and ethnic cleansing.

Sfard told Anadolu Agency that he documented calls by officials to apply

“annihilation, ethnic cleansing, execution to prisoners, throwing a nuclear bomb, inflicting a second Nakba, starving people in Gaza and using epidemics as a tool against the population in Gaza.”

The Israeli onslaught has left Gaza in ruins, with 60 per cent of the enclave’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed, and nearly 2 million displaced residents amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine.
