Between 1999 and 2015, more than 700 postmasters were prosecuted after faulty accounting software made it look like money was missing from their sites.

More than 700 branch managers were convicted after faulty Horizon accounting software, made by the Japanese technology firm Fujitsu, made it look as though money was missing from their shops.

Fewer than 100 convictions have been overturned to date.

Franz Beckenbauer, the former West Germany captain and manager, has died at the age of 78.

Beckenbauer, who led West Germany to World Cup success as captain in 1974 and as manager in 1990, was one of the great midfielders of a generation.
