Backlash from Tory Right as Cameron returns
Rishi Sunak brought David Cameron back into the Cabinet on Monday in a reshuffle that triggered a new row with the Right of the Conservative Party. The reshuffle saw Suella Braverman sacked as home secretary, days after she had alleged police bias in an unauthorised article about pro-Palestinian marches. This led MPs on the Right of the party to turn on the Prime Minister with Dame Andrea Jenkyns, a prominent Boris Johnson supporter, sending a letter of no confidence to the 1922 committee.
Cameron was offered job before Braverman accused police of bias
It has emerged the job offer that stunned Westminster was made face-to-face last Tuesday evening in the flat at Number 11 Downing Street. Mr Sunak had a proposal for his predecessor: a return to the Cabinet as foreign secretary, plus an elevation to the Upper House as a peer of the realm. That the news did not leak is testament to the Prime Minister’s small, close-knit inner circle of trusted advisers and the seriousness with which the now Lord Cameron took the offer.
Israel releases ‘evidence’ children were held hostage in Gaza hospital basement
Israel claimed on Monday night to have uncovered a hospital basement with evidence children had been held hostage there by Hamas terrorists. Israeli commanders said that troops who entered Gaza City’s Rantisi Hospital found baby bottles, nappies, chairs with rope and a motorbike like those used by Hamas to ferry back captives from the October 7 raids into Israel. Alongside makeshift toilets and curtains said to be used to film possible hostage videos, the IDF also claimed to have found stores of weapons and suicide-bomb vests.
