Op de avond van 10 december 2021 trof een destructieve long-track EF3+ tornado gebieden van Kentucky waaronder Mayfield. Het veroorzaakte een aanzienlijke hoeveelheid schade. Het dak van Mayfield Consumer Products, een kaarsenmakerij, stortte in tijdens de tornado, waarbij gevreesd werd dat tientallen omkwamen, gevangen in de restanten van het gebouw.
