Russia has done a trial run in Syria and is now keen to use similar tactics to make Ukraine its own.

The Spanish politician serving as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (HR/VP), Josep Borrell on February the 22nd had already called upon Russia to return to the tenets of the Normandy Format.
On March the 17th the Vice President of the European Commission once again denounced the military invasion launched by Vladimir Putin and has asked European citizens to make a greater effort to deal with the consequences of the conflict.
“The misfortune of mankind is in Ukraine. The Russian army wants to make it the Syria from Europe“.
It could be said that Europe preferred not to believe what the United States kept saying, that Russia was preparing a war. But the European leaders wished to wait and see and, as Zelenskyy advised, not to create panic or send out false rumours that would only serve to rile Russia.
“We thought that the deployment of troops would be an instrument of pressure and not the start of such a brutal war”,
Borell pointed out and lamented that, after the Russian invasion of Crimea in 2014,
“we have only increased our dependence on Russian oil and gas. We have to turn back.”
Now we see the heavy consequences of that gullibility and trust in that Man of the North. But now we can only hope that Europe will see its true face. More than ever, Europe must work to be independent of others. We must ensure that we can stand on our own two feet in all areas as soon as possible.
Our dependence on oil, gas and electricity is our weak point. We must work on it as a matter of urgency.
The Vice-President of the European Union did not raise or discuss these points, which is regrettable, because it is from on high that more pressure will have to be put on the states.
The diplomat has celebrated that the community club has “broken taboos” with the use of European funds to arm Ukraine, which
“is also defending us.”
Still, he has stressed that
“we are not at war with Russia”
and has refused to create a no-fly zone. Both the EU and NATO have good reasons for this. According to Borell:
“We do not want to provoke or give any excuse to Putin to start the third World war“, has finished.
