Televangelist Pat Robertson said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “compelled by God” in his decision to invade Ukraine

Last few years we have seen signs which should worry a certain bit. Or perhaps they also could give us hope, namely that the time of Jesus’ coming is nearby.

If we study the Bible, we learn that at the end of time there will be very difficult times for everyone, believers and non-believers, so that actually everyone will be tested by an incredible horror.

Lots of people prefer to ignore matters instead of facing the truth. There may happen lots of things around them, but they often prefer to close their eyes to many things or do not want to talk about them, as if they do not exist or they do not play a role in their life. Some Christians say they may not be part of the world and as such do not want to know anything about the world or ignore everything that happens to others. But that is not what Christ Jesus intended. Such ignoring of what goes on in the world does not show the love Jesus wants us to show to others.

When more scientists tried to convince the world that we should take more care of the world, because we are destroying it, a great deal of the population did not want to believe them and are not willing to do something against climate change or global warming. For many, it is a “far from my bed show”. The majority of people want to consume whatever they desire, no matter at what cost it might come to them, as long as they do not have to pay too much for it themselves.

Now Russia’s movements are troubling more people, several start thinking about what might come to them. Several people wonder if we are going to a world war. Perhaps they have good reason to think so.

The American media mogul, televangelist, political commentator, former Republican presidential candidate, Pat Robertson who advocates a conservative Christian ideology and is known for his past activities in Republican party politics, spanning over five decades has had a career as the founder of several major organisations and corporations as well as a university: The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), the International Family Entertainment Inc. (ABC Family Channel), Regent University, the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ), the Founders Inn and Conference Center, the Christian Coalition, an L-1011 Flying Hospital, Operation Blessing International Relief and Development Corporation, and CBN Asia.

He holds to a charismatic theology not traditionally common among Southern Baptists. His personal influence on media and financial resources make him a recognized, influential, and controversial public voice for conservative Christendom in the United States and around the world.

From his conservative point of view it is up to Christians to have a right to rule. He is “adamantly opposed” to the division of Jerusalem between Israel and the Palestinians. He also stated that Armageddon is “not going to be fought at Megiddo” but will be the “battle of Jerusalem,” when

“the forces of all nations come together and try to take Jerusalem away from the Jews. Jews are not going to give up Jerusalem — they shouldn’t — and the rest of the world is going to insist they give it up.”

For him it looks as if that time has come.

We can imagine that he was very pleased with the good relationship of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and Trump stated that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. Probaly he thinks in line with former president Donald Trump who called the Russian move “savvy,” and even “genius.” It also would not surprise me if he would be in line with the American television host and conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson who slammed “corrupt” Ukraine while praising Putin.

At the end of February (Monday February 28) he said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “compelled by God” in his decision to invade Ukraine, suggesting that Russia’s attacks are a precursor to an end-times battle in Israel. He said:

“People say that Putin’s out of his mind. Yes, maybe so, but at the same time, he’s being compelled by God. He went into the Ukraine but that wasn’t his goal. His goal was to move against Israel, ultimately.”

Robertson added that Jerusalem is a

“spiritual symbol that must not be given away”

because

Jesus Christ the Messiah will come down to the part of Jerusalem that the Arabs want,”

and that’s

“not good.”

he says.

Putin, according to him, is simply following God’s wishes when Russia invaded Ukraine — to fulfil a biblical prophecy.

**

All believers in Christ can only look at those prophecies and compare what is said in them to what we see happening the last few years and now.

We do not need a crystal ball to see what the future holds. The Bible gives us a fairly clear picture of what lies ahead.
Admitting that what is happening now in the north of Europe can make us think of the proclamations of the “King of the North” who will violently strike after having first prepared his plans in silence and denial.
In a sense, we cannot fail to see that the figure of Putin coincides with that of the biblical Gog.

In a way, this should worry us, but on the other hand, it should also give us hope that we are heading towards a time that will mark the end of time.

When that time is near, we should feel strengthened when we as believers may trust the Highest Host of hosts. Then, we should even take the job Jesus has given his followers even more serious. In those times of trouble it is very important that the gospel of the coming kingdom will be told to as many people as possible.

So let us not forsake this message of Christ in these times and show people the lighthouse beacon in these coming dark times.
