Russia reacting to attempts to break ‘strategic parity’

Since 2002, the U.S. had been in talks with Poland and other European countries over the possibility of setting up a European base to intercept long-range missiles. America insisted this missile shield in eastern Europe was purely to stop Iranian long-range missiles. Russia however sees things differently and believes the US intention is to change the delicate balance of power in their favour. Putin has not hidden the fact that Russia will not tolerate a missile shield so close to Russian borders. Not much has been said about the shield in recent years but the fact Putin has spoken the last week of October about it means it is probably on the agenda again and progressing forward.

In Daniel 11:40 we read of the king of the south “pushing” or ”militarily provoking” the king of Daniel 11:36-39. That king is Gog himself – the Russian ruler. The missile shield might be the push.

Russia has said it is freezing ties with Nato after relations between the two plunged to a new low over a spying row. Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister, said Russia was suspending the work of its mission to Nato and closing down the alliance’s military liaison and information offices in Moscow. He said the move was retaliation for the expulsion by Nato this month of eight members of Moscow’s mission in Brussels, where the alliance has its headquarters. Nato said the Russians were “undeclared intelligence officers”. Russia denied the claim. “Nato is not interested in equitable dialogue and joint work,” Lavrov, 71, said.

“If that’s the case, then we don’t see the need to keep pretending that changes in the foreseeable future are possible.”

He said the decision would come into force by November 1.

NATO is a military alliance of the West to protect the EU from the East (Russia). It was created in 1949 during the Cold War with the USSR. Tension has been building over the past few years with Russia especially since Russia invaded Ukraine and annexed Crimea. There have been tensions over Russia’s military support for President Assad in Syria and an attempt to assassinate Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition leader. Nato has accused Russian fighter jets of buzzing allied ships. This week, Jens Stoltenberg, the Nato secretary general, said the Russians had been expelled from Brussels as a response to “malign” Russian activity.

“We need to be vigilant,”

he said, pointing to Russia’s military build-up on Ukraine’s borders. We also need to be vigilant. We have long looked for Russia to rise up and descend – all this is building up to that point…

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

You [Gog – Russian leader] are the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel. At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them. (Ezekiel 38:17)

We as a Christadelphian community have also said for over 150 years that Gog (Russian leader) would one day come against Israel.
